Getting Started
What is Flexibar and what does it do?
Flexibar is an AI-powered announcement bar app for Shopify. It lets you create scrolling marquees, sticky banners, countdown timers, rotating slider bars, and gradient promo bars in a few clicks — no code, no theme edits. Inside one app you also get AI-generated copy, 60+ language auto-translation, geo & device targeting, and date/time scheduling. Most merchants publish their first bar in under 60 seconds.
How do I install Flexibar?
Installation is a one-click flow from the Shopify App Store:
- Open the Flexibar listing on the Shopify App Store and click Install.
- Approve the install in your Shopify admin (Flexibar only requests the minimum scopes needed — read products, write theme app embeds).
- Flexibar enables its App Embed in your theme automatically. You'll see the green "App embed on" badge inside the app.
- Click + Add New Announcement Bar to create your first bar.
That's it — no Liquid edits, no copy-pasted snippets, and no developer needed.
How do I create my first announcement bar?
Two ways:
- Start from a template (fastest) — go to Template Bars in the sidebar, browse 10+ pre-built designs (Flash Sale, Black Friday, Free Shipping, Countdown, Coupon Code…), and click Duplicate on the one closest to your goal.
- Start from scratch — click + Add New Announcement Bar on the dashboard, type a name, write your message (or generate one with AI), pick colors and position, then hit Save & Publish.
The editor has three tabs: Contents (message, type, links), Design (colors, typography, animation, position), and Placing (devices, pages, countries, schedule). A real-time preview on the right updates as you type.
Is Flexibar free? What's in the free plan?
Yes — Flexibar has a generous free plan that covers the features most merchants need to launch: multiple simultaneous bars, AI message generation, auto-translation into 60+ languages, countdown timers & scheduling, device/page/country targeting, and custom CSS. You can install and run a published announcement bar at zero cost. See current limits below or in the in-app billing page.
Bar Types & Templates
What types of announcement bars can I create?
Flexibar supports the full set of conversion-bar patterns merchants actually use:
- Single Message — one static line of copy (best for free-shipping notices and trust messages).
- Running Message (Marquee) — a horizontally scrolling line for an "eye-grab" effect.
- Multiple Message (Slider) — auto-rotating messages with a configurable delay (best for 2–4 promos in one slot).
- Countdown bars — bars with a live countdown in DAYS / HRS / MINS / SECS (flash sales, BFCM, drops).
- CTA bars — bars with a clickable button (Claim Offer, Shop Now, Unlock Code, etc.).
Do you have pre-made templates I can start from?
Yes — Flexibar ships with 10+ designed templates tuned for common e-commerce use cases: Flash Sale, Christmas Special, Black Friday Deal, Free Shipping, Hurry Up Sale, Winter Sale, New Collection, Coupon Code, Unlock Discount, Summer Sale, and more. Open Template Bars in the sidebar, click Duplicate on any template, and Flexibar drops a fully-styled copy into your dashboard — you only need to change the message and publish.
Can I run multiple announcement bars at the same time?
Yes. Each bar is independent. You can publish several bars simultaneously and use Flexibar's targeting rules to control exactly where and when each one appears — for example:
- A free-shipping bar sitewide for everyone.
- A countdown bar only on collection and product pages during a sale window.
- A geo-targeted bar (e.g., a French Black Friday bar shown only to FR visitors).
- A mobile-only banner with a shorter message.
Bars stack in the order you arrange them in the dashboard (drag to reorder).
Design & Customization
How much can I customize the look of my bar?
Everything visual is editable from the Design tab, no code required:
- Typography — font family (Open Sans by default + 20+ alternatives), color, size (Small / Medium / Large), Bold toggle.
- Background — Solid color or Gradient (two-color gradient with adjustable angle 0°–360°).
- Animation — None, Pulse, Slide-In, Fade, Bounce (subtle by default, dismissible).
- Position — Top or Bottom of the page, with optional Sticky behavior.
- Emojis — paste any emoji into the message box.
- Custom CSS — for advanced merchants who want exact pixel control.
Can I add a button or link?
Yes. Inside the Contents tab, click Link below the message editor to attach a destination URL. You can also turn the entire bar into a CTA by using one of the button templates (Claim Offer, Shop Now, Unlock Code) — these come pre-styled and you only need to swap the destination link.
Use cases:
- Promo bar → link to a specific collection or sale page.
- Coupon bar → link to the cart with the discount auto-applied (use
/discount/CODEURLs). - Trust bar → link to your shipping or returns policy.
Does it work on mobile and with all Shopify themes?
Yes — Flexibar is fully mobile-responsive and works with any Online Store 2.0 theme (Dawn, Sense, Refresh, Studio, Crave, and all popular custom and premium themes). The live preview at the top of the editor includes a Desktop / Tablet / Mobile toggle so you can sanity-check responsive behavior before publishing. You can also force a bar to show on certain devices only from the Placing tab.
Targeting, Scheduling & AI
How do I schedule a bar for a specific date and time?
In the Placing tab, toggle on Scheduling. You'll get start & end date/time fields plus a Store Timezone indicator (so you always know which zone the bar will fire in). Set your window, save, and Flexibar will auto-publish at start time and auto-unpublish at end time — no manual cleanup. This is what powers reliable Black Friday, flash sale, and product-drop campaigns.
Can I target specific countries, pages, or devices?
Yes. The Placing tab gives you three independent targeting rules:
- Targeted Device — All Devices / Desktop / Mobile / Tablet (checkboxes, so you can combine).
- Pages — Entire Store, or pick Specific Pages (home, collections, products, cart, custom URLs).
- Countries — All Countries, or pick Specific Countries (geo-detect by IP).
Rules combine with AND, so you can do "show on product pages only, mobile only, US visitors only" in a single bar.
How does the AI message and AI translation work?
Inside the message editor you'll see two AI buttons:
- ✨ AI Message — tell Flexibar what your bar is for ("free shipping over $50", "BFCM 30% off", "early-access drop launching Friday") and it writes a tight, conversion-tuned message you can accept, regenerate, or edit.
- 🌐 AI Translation — auto-translates your bar into 60+ languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Hindi, and more). Visitors automatically see the bar in their browser's language.
Both are included in the free plan with a monthly quota.
Performance & Privacy
Will Flexibar slow down my store?
No. Flexibar ships as a Shopify App Embed (loads via the theme, not as an injected script tag), the runtime is <15 KB gzipped, and it loads asynchronously after the page is interactive. It has no impact on Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) and only a negligible CLS shift that we offset with reserved height. If you ever measure a regression in Lighthouse or Core Web Vitals, message support and we'll investigate within 24 hours.
Is my store data safe? What does Flexibar access?
Flexibar only requests the minimum Shopify scopes needed to render bars: read shop info, read products (so you can link bars to collection/product pages), and write the theme app embed. We do not store customer PII, do not sell data, do not run third-party trackers, and follow Shopify's Protected Customer Data rules. Bar settings are stored encrypted at rest. How do I uninstall Flexibar if I need to?
Uninstall is a one-click action from Shopify admin (Apps → Flexibar → Uninstall). When you remove the app, all bars stop showing immediately and the theme app embed cleans itself up — no leftover code, no Liquid snippets, no JavaScript residue. If you later reinstall within 30 days, your bar configurations are restored automatically.
